CHARLOTTETOWN - The Holland Hurricanes outlasted the UNBSJ Seawolves in a hectic fourth set to earn the win Sunday afternoon at the Centre for Community Engagement.
Set scores of 25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 43-41 became more than just a linescore after the game, adding drama to each team's last contest of the 2018 portion of the ACAA schedule.
After a relatively uneventful first three sets, the Hurricanes and Seawolves battled it out for an additional 35 points after the Hurricanes attempted to convert their first match point at 25-24 in the fourth set.
The Hurricanes needed nine match point opportunities to secure the victory. UNBSJ had 13 set point opportunities, including four straight after they jumped out to a 24-20 lead.
Abby Hyndman led the Hurricanes with 18 kills and seven service aces, while Brittany States chipped in with 14 kills , and Zayley Murphy added 11. Defensively, Katie Wood had a game-high 23 digs.
For the Seawolves, Abigail Bernard had 13 kills and four service aces to pace the counter-attack.
With the victory, the Hurricanes have joined Mount Allison in a tie for second place in the ACAA, three games back of the 10-0 (won-lost) MSVU Mystics.
The Seawolves fell to 6-4 with the loss.
