Fredericton – For the fourthyear in a row, the UNB Reds and St. Thomas University Tommies will meet in the ACAA Women’s Rugby Championship game this Saturday, Nov. 3 at College Field in Fredericton.
After earning the win a year ago, thanks to a 32-22 battle, UNB added their third ACAA title since joining the league in 2015-16. The Reds will look to capture their fourth consecutive championship Saturday when they face their cross-campus rivals. After finishing the season 6-0, UNB clinched first place and earned the right to host Saturday’s championship on their home turf, College Field. Along the way, UNB has outscored their opponent 378-53 and have yet to concede a match in three years.
However, the Reds are sure to face their toughest test yet when they face St. Thomas on Saturday. Coming off of a convincing 45-12 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties in the ACAA semi-final last Sunday, the underdog Tommies will look to take down their rivals and win their 4th ACAA title. St. Thomas finished the regular season with a 4-2 record had a point differential over their opponents of +251.
In the 2018 season, UNB owned the head to head match-up against St. Thomas, winning both games 45-12 and 29-10. Nevertheless, the Tommies certainly gave UNB their toughest matches of the year. In their second meeting St. Thomas controlled much of the tempo of the game but ultimately came up short of a victory.
Come out to College Field this Saturday at 1 p.m. to watch these two bitter rivals face off against one another on the biggest stage with ACAA supremacy on the line.
