The UNB Saint John Seawolves met the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in ACAA men's basketball Saturday in Saint John.
The Mystics jumped out to a 15-6 lead before the Seawolves found their game and narrowed the gap to 32-31 for the Mystics at the half. The wild game featured many lead changes throughout the third and fourth quarters before the Seawolves finished it off with a flurry of points to hold on to a 79-77 victory over the second place Mystics.
The Seawolves had five players with 10 or more points. Hunter Gray led the way with 18 points followed by Ian Watters (14), Alex Giesecke (13), Steve Ryan (12) and Austin Buchanan (10). Liam Mitchell scored a game-high 22 points for the Mystics. Joel MCrossin and Brody Blakney added 14 each. Tario Sands grabbed 7 rebounds.
The Seawolves moved into fifth place with the win and improved to 6-10 for the season while the Mystics lost for only the fourth time and now stand at 12-4.
The Seawolves next action is Sunday, February 10 when they travel to Halifax for a crucial game with the UKC Blue Devils at 4:00 PM. The Mystics travel to Crandall to take on the Chargers at 3:00 PM.
