The UNB Saint John Seawolves took on the Dalhousie Agricultural College Saturday in ACAA men's basketball.
The Seawolves cooled off the red hot Rams in the first quarter racing ahead to a 28-13 lead. The half ended 49-37 but the Rams went on a big run in the third quarter as they cut the Seawolves lead to 63-62. The Rams actually got the lead for a brief moment in the fourth quarter but Seawolves regained composure and held off the charge to win 89-80.
The Seawolves used a balance attack. Six players had 10 or more points, led by Keegan Gray's 19 points. He scored most of them when he took the game over early in the fourth quarter with the Seawolves were struggling to maintain the lead. Steve Ryan added 16 points and Jacob Vickers had 10 points and 13 rebounds. JC Broussard had a big game for the Rams with 30 points and 7 rebounds. Tesean Clyde added 17 points and Than Downey finished 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Seawolves improved to 5-9 and strengthened their hold on a playoff spot while the Rams dropped to 3-12.
The Seawolves play at home again Sunday, February 3 against the Mount Allison Mounties at 4:30 PM while the next game for the Rams is Wednesday, Feb. 6 when they travel to play the MSVU Mystics at 8:30 PM.
