Mount Allison Captures Gold at 2015 ACAA Cross Country Running Championships

BROOKVALE, PE: The defending champions Mount Allison Mounties didn’t leave any doubt that they deserve the title as they swept both men and women team titles this past Saturday at the 2015 ACAA Cross Country Running Championships.

The Atlantic Colligate Athletic Association (ACAA) event hosted by Holland College at Brookvale Nordic Ski Park saw fifty- two runners participate representing six schools including Mount Allison, Holland College, Mount St. Vincent, Dalhousie Agricultural Campus, Crandall University and Université Sainte-Anne.

The Mounties captured Gold on the men’s side with 15 Pts (2nd, 3rd, 4th & 6th) over Silver place Holland College 34 Pts (1st, 10th, 11th & 12th) and Crandall University’s Bronze 39 Pts (5th, 7th, 13th & 14th). The women Mounties delivered similar Gold medal performances with 21 Pts (2nd, 3rd, 5th & 11th) followed by Silver Dalhousie Agricultural Campus 29 Pts (1st, 6th, 10th & 12th) and Mount St. Vincent’s Bronze 55 Pts (8th, 9th, 15th & 23rd).

In the individual results, Dalhousie Agricultural Campus women’s runner Hannah Arseneault finished first with a 21:55 time on the 5 KM course to capture gold.  Clare Henderson-Hamilton of Mount Allison (22:34) Silver, Elizabeth Torrance Mount Allison (23:22) Bronze, Holland College Madison Dayton (23:23) 4th and Taylor Crosby, Mount Allison (24:05) 5th rounded out the top five finishers.

Holland College’s male runner Ryan Merrett captured gold as he crossed the finished line in a time of 30:14 on the 8 KM course. He was followed by Mount Allison’s Jeppe Hejlsvig (30:20) Silver, Sebastien Englemann of Mount Allison Bronze (33:53), 4th place Université Sainte-Anne Paul MacNeil (34:32) and Mount Allison Connor Lane (34:39) finished in 5th place.
Immediately after the meet, the ACAA Championship banquet was held as the following award winners were recognized:
