School : Université Sainte-Anne
Athlete: Danielle Chiasson
Sport : Cross-country
“Small but mighty!” There is no better way to describe what Danielle Chiasson is all about. The fifth year BSc/Ed Student from Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, has contributed in multiple ways to the student life during her stay in Church Point. “It is rare to find a student involved in all aspects of extracurricular activities; social, sport, humanitarian...Danielle does it all but what is even more remarkable about all this is the positive energy and leadership she brings time after time and moreover the fact that she is a very good student” says Pierre Nobert the Unviersité Sainte-Anne, Athletic Director.
From the moment she entered the campus of Université Sainte-Anne in 2005, Danielle started to participate in everything. Her strong Cape Breton roots naturally led her towards music and traditional dancing. She then joined the theatre group, an other obvious move considering her experience in “Le grand cercle” (the big circle), a play composed especially for the 2004 “Congrès mondial acadien (World Acadian Congress).
Her leadership skills were quickly recognized in residence and Danielle worked as a Residence Assistant. But looking after a residence was not enough and the following year she was elected on the Student Association as “V.P. Socio-Culturel”, a job that allowed her to contribute even more directly to the unique Sainte-Anne’s Campus’ Spirit.
Her interest for sport then took her to join the Women’s Hockey Team and later the Cross-Country squad. Her enthusiasm and work ethic has been and still is contagious to all her team mates.
Danielle is also part of “best buddies”, a group of Students helping handicapped people in the community. She is also a strong actor in “La messe des jeunes” another group of fellow students looking after the organization and animation of church services on a monthly basis.
Before starting her teaching career, one may think Danielle will take it easy for a few months….wrong!! The oldest of two children, her brother Justin plays hockey for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, is currently planning a humanitarian trip to an African country! Small but mighty! …. You bet she is!
