Pierre Arsenault Assumes Position of Mount Allison

SACKVILLE, NB - After a national search and selection process, Mount Allison University is pleased to announce that Pierre Arsenault joined the campus community as its Director of Athletics and Recreation on July 27th. Pierre replaces long-time director Jack Drover, who retired in June following a 35-year career in athletics at Mount Allison.

Mount Allison Vice-President, International and Student Affairs, Ron Byrne, says, "Pierre brings a strong combination of sports administration experience, proven leadership ability, and team management at a variety of levels to this position. We are pleased to welcome Pierre as a Mount Allison ‘Mountie’ and I look forward to working with him to further enhance our leading athletics and recreation program at Mount Allison."

Pierre Arsenault says, "Mount Allison University’s reputation, both in the classroom and on the athletics and recreation fronts, is one to be proud of. I am excited and humbled to be joining this community as the Director of Athletics and Recreation and I look forward to working with the students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and sports fans of Mount Allison."

Pierre comes to Mount Allison from the New Brunswick Golf Association, where he has served as Executive Director for seven years. Prior to this, Pierre worked with Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Centre of Excellence, the Saskatchewan Hockey Association, and with the University of Ottawa’s Gee-Gees Varsity Hockey Team. He holds a Bachelor of Physical Education (concentration in sports administration) from the University of New Brunswick and a Master’s degree in sport administration from the University of Ottawa. Pierre moves to Sackville with his wife Karen and sons Jack and Ben, and daughter Jamie.

The Director of Athletics and Recreation oversees the broad-based athletics and recreation portfolio at Mount Allison, which includes programs, activities, and services at a number of levels, in accordance with the University’s Strategic Statement. Mount Allison currently has 11 varsity teams, nine club sports, and one of the strongest intramural program participation rates in the country.

The University has enjoyed a number of successes on the athletic front. This past year alone Mount Allison had 11 varsity and club teams make it to their respective playoffs, hosted nine regional sports conference championships, and celebrated student athletes who received awards from regional and nationalorganizations. The University also received the top grade in its categorynationally for its recreation and athletics program in the 2008 Globe and MailCanadian University Report Card (www.globecampus.ca/)
